A huge THANK YOU to each and everyone of you who were involved in supporting and/or directly supervising our OT student placements this fall!
Your generous offers for OCCTH 528 (7 weeks in Sept/Oct) and OCCTH 503 (1 week in Nov) sessions had our students engaging in a wide-range of OT practice areas and locations. Fantastic experiences!
The 'call for offers' and placement requests for our 2019 fieldwork sessions will be sent our early in the new year ... so stay tuned to HSPnet or your email inbox!
MUCH appreciated,
Cori and the UofA MscOT Clinical Education Team

Teaching Resource for Preceptors
We are in the early days of OCCTH 527 (Level 3a) placements so it is an appropriate time to share this online free access article (from the CAOT OT Now archive) re:
A Teaching Resource for Preceptors of Occupational Therapy Students (D’Cunha Sequeira, 2011)
This article provides ideas for teaching/learning activities associated with each of the fieldwork competencies that are applicable at every level of fieldwork and across practice contexts.
Click here to access the article (starting on page 7).
Thank you for mentoring our Level 3a OT students in your practice settings across Alberta and Saskatchewan, as well as other Canadian provinces, and as far away as Scotland, Santa Barbara and Australia!

OCCTH 525 Wraps Up & OCCTH 527 Begins
It's such a busy time of year for our UofA fieldwork program, despite the beginning of summer holidays for so many!
We'd like to offer enormous THANKS to all the OTs who just finished providing fieldwork supervision to our Year 1 students in recent weeks during OCCTH 525 (Level 1)!
And also THANKS to the OTs who have started providing fieldwork supervision to our Year 2 students for OCCTH 527 (Level 3a) in the weeks ahead!
Here are a small selection of the 'postcards' from the field that students sent in to show us where they were and what they were doing at sites across Alberta and Saskatchewan:
Welcome to summer, everyone!

Final Weeks of OCCTH 526 & Updated OT Fieldwork Handbook
It's the final 2 weeks of OCCTH 526 Level 2 placements for our Y2 students.
Thanks again to all of you who are working with and alongside these students to support their growth and development!
The newest revised version of our UofA OT Fieldwork Handbook is now available on the 'clinical education' pages and drop down menu on our department's website.
This comprehensive resource provides clinical educators (preceptors) and students access to all of the policies and procedures related to fieldwork.
As ever, let the Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education (ACCE) or one of the fieldwork team members know if you have any questions re: the hosting, supervision and/or evaluation of our MScOT students.

OCCTH 526 & a Free New Online Tutorial for Using the CBFE
OCCTH 526 is now underway ...
THANK YOU to each of you who are currently supervising one of our MScOT students for this Level 2 placement period!
A new, two-part, online video tutorial on using the Competency-based Fieldwork Evaluation (CBFE-OT) produced by Bossers (original CBFE author) and Ravenek from Western University is now available free of charge:
Part 1: Introduction to the CBFE-OT (23 min)
Part 2: Student Evaluation Using the CBFE-OT (28 min)
The tutorial is meant to be helpful to you, if needed ... but not necessarily prescriptive! You may find that you have questions after viewing the videos, since there may be a bit of discrepancy between how you have used the CBFE 'historically' and what is contained in the tutorials.
If so, you are welcome to contact Cori Schmitz or another fieldwork team member for clarification!
We sure appreciate your ongoing support and involvement in the clinical education of our OT students!
